The Tooth Whitening Information Group – TWIG – is working towards a safe and effective tooth whitening solution in the best interests of the public. To make tooth whitening safe for the public. TWIG consists of both members and representatives, here is the list of all the organisations which came together for a safe tooth whitening:
Oral Health Foundation
The Oral Health Foundation is an independent charity dedicated to improving oral health and wellbeing around the world. For more than 40 years they have continued to provide expert, independent and impartial advice on all aspects of oral health directly to those who need it most.
Formed in 1971, the concept of preventive dentistry and the benefits which could ensue from it were very new and being practiced by only a small proportion of the dental profession. The founding fathers of the Foundation wished to see the preventive message that ‘Teeth are for Life’ spread as widely as possible to the public with the aim of improving the overall health of the nation’s teeth.
The British Dental Association (BDA) is the professional association and trade union for dentists in the United Kingdom.
It represents more than 23,000 dentists working in general practice, in community and hospital settings, in academia and research, and in the armed forces, and includes dental students.
As an organisation that is owned entirely by its members and with no external shareholders, the BDA is able to focus solely on its mission to promote the interests of its members; advance the science, arts and ethics of dentistry, and improve the nation’s oral health.
British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy
The British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy (BSDHT) is one of the largest professional groups in dentistry, with around 4000 members across the UK and beyond. Originally set up in 1949 as the British Dental Hygienists’ Association, the organisation has grown in size and stature over the past 60+ years. The Society’s strapline – promoting health, preventing disease, providing skills – encapsulates the role of the organisation and of its members.
The BSDHT puts support to its members at the top of the list of what it does and this is provided in a range of ways, from publications to training to one to one email support. The Society’s renowned range of publications – Dental Health, DH Contact and Annual Clinical Journal – are recognised for their scientific articles, educational support, news stories, updates and CPD.
The British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry aims to promote clinical excellence in cosmetic dentistry, that is carried out in an ethical, minimally invasive way.
Through education for dentists, dental teams and laboratory technicians, the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry leads the profession to higher standards of dentistry. All members are encouraged to provide their dentistry to their patients in an aesthetic manner, whilst maintaining high standards so that dental health and longevity of any dental work is ensured.
BADN is the UK’s only professional association for dental nurses. Founded in 1940, it is open to all dental nurses working in all areas of dentistry. BADN Council is composed of dental nurses who give up their free time to support and act on behalf of dental nurses. Membership package includes free quarterly copies of the “British Dental Nurses’ Journal” with up to 8 hours verifiable CPD per year, free legal helpline, free members CD Rom, members area of the website, indemnity cover (where appropriate) and BADN Benefits – a range of discounts and special offers.
The British Dental Bleaching Society was established in 2008 primarily to train and educate dentists and their dental teams in competency to carry out all aspects of professional dental bleaching. All members of the team need to learn more about tooth whitening. Dental therapists and dental hygienists are allowed to undertake whitening treatment under the prescription of a dentist and with the direct supervision of a dentist. It is thus essential that dental hygienists and dental therapists undertake the appropriate training in all dental bleaching so that they can help to provide excellent successful whitening for their patients.
It is essential to know how best to treat each individual patient, so that they can obtain predictable whitening results. For further information please see the British Dental Bleaching Society Website.
BADT have been representing Therapists since 1962, our aim is to promote the advancement of Dental Therapy within the dental profession. We provide an information service to our membership to include CPD, news, discussion boards, legal advice, job vacancies, information about us to other dental professionals and an annual conference.
We sponsor awards and campaign for greater recognition within the industry. For further information please see the British Association of Dental Therapists.
The British Dental Industry Association represents and supports manufacturers and suppliers of dental products, services and technologies, to the benefit of members, the dental profession and the public. The BDTA was established in 1923 and today represents the interests of over 125 member companies.
The BDIA keeps members up to date on the latest industry news, statistics and regulations. The Association also promotes the BDIA Certificate: Introduction to Dentistry as the desired industry training standard.
The UK’s biggest dental exhibition, BDIA Dental Showcase, is organised by the BDIA.
